A Message from Coach Ivan C. Thomas
As
an educator and basketball coach, my life mission and purpose is to
motivate and help people discover their purpose. I teach our youth
simple techniques that allow them to experience daily success: goal
setting, self-discipline, work ethic and unbreakable resiliency. We
live in a constant changing world and no one group is more affected by
these changes than our youth, I attempt to instill in them an
unbreakable resolve that will not only motivate but teach them how to
stand up to life pressures and accomplish their goals.
Every person wants to feel needed and a part of something important. I
aim to help our youth discover their individual gifts in life, so that
they understand the end result of education is that it will lead to a
more defined since of purpose in life. Life will present challenges but
if our youth have a purpose, a goal, a work ethic and an unbreakable
spirit nothing can hold them back.

I motivate our youth with old school values presented with a new school flavor. I capture their attention with stories that educate and evaluate their own values. Kids, youth and adults are glued to there seat as I capture their attention with stories of my experiences with my own children, students and players. They hear my message because I speak to them in a language that they can clearly understand. To quote one high school Junior, "Coach Thomas is real. He holds no punches and he tells us like it is. We know he will tell us the truth even when we are wrong but he will tell us in a way that our parents would if they understood how".
I simply enjoy finding new ways to help motivate young people to reach there full potential. I take joy and pure satisfaction when I connect with a young person and it is the most rewarding feeling when I am able to reach, teach and motivate a child.
About Ivan C. Thomas
Ivan is the man he is today because of the incredible support and guidance that his parents gave him. Both of his parents overcame difficult obstacles in their own up bringing but through their experiences they taught him how to stand and dare to be different even amongst his own peers. As a teenager, Ivan always saw him self as a leader of his peers. His parents gave him purpose for his life that was reassured through their actions and words every morning before and after school. They told him "You are a leader and not a follower and a future leader of others". These constant motivational phrases that Ivan thought where simply words at the time, gave him the confidence to stand up to peer pressure and stay away from drugs, alcohol and other self-destructive activities that typically trouble an adolescents life.
Ivan understood the power of words and motivation to help others achieve their maximum potential even in high school. He looked forward to motivating his teammates and peers before athletic games and competition. Everything that Ivan C. Thomas is today is because of the motivation and supreme support that his parents gave him. They showed him his purpose early in life and he has used his gift of leadership to change others lives.
Today Ivan draws from his own life experiences to explain to young people that its o.k. to be different and that you don't have to do what everyone else is doing to fit in. You can be you and still be accepted among your peers. Ivan has been counseling, coaching and transforming young high school students lives for over ten years. He uses his gift of leadership to encourage and motivate young people to be leaders, self-disciplined and goal oriented.

He is an outstanding basketball coach and motivator. Coach Ivan C.
Thomas is the Head Boys Basketball Coach of the famous T.C. Williams
High School in Alexandria Va. The high school was made famous for
honoring the 1971 football team in the movie "Remember the Titans".
With his outstanding leadership and inspiration coach Thomas has lead
the 2008 T.C. Williams Boys Basketball team to the 2008 State
Championship. Winning the Va. Boys 2008 AAA State Championship was the
first title won since 1977 and it has ended a 27 year drought in
Northern Virginia. With his unique approach to working with high school
students he has helped his team over the past three years go undefeated
at 52-0 in the district and he has transformed their thinking and
helped them develop an unbreakable spirit for life.
Coach Thomas has
been named as the Northern Region Coach of the year in 2004, 2007 and
in 2008 for his outstanding work with young high school students. He
was recognized nationally as the All Metropolitan Coach of year in 2008
for his efforts in serving high school students in athletics.

Ivan
has presented talks to the likes of teachers, teens, athletes,
elementary, middle and high school students, united way organization,
Alexandria Volunteer and Retired Teachers Association and U Links
program in Chicago. Along with youth programs Ivan presents to parents
and communities as well.
Ivan appears routinely in print, the
subject of articles in newspapers across the country. He is also an
author of 45 Tips to Discovering Your Child's Gift.
Ivan
believes that every person has a gift and purpose in life. He believes
if adults begin to give our youth a since of purpose for their life
their perception of their position in the world would be significant. A
young person with a significant purpose in life who has an unbreakable
spirit can change the world. His mission is to impart a vision for our
young people that give purpose which makes them unbreakable to life
challenges.
